chilli tomato sauce


INGREDIENTS:
1 medium-sized onion, minced 2 tablespoons salad oil 3-1/2 cups tomato puree
2 cloves garlic, minced or mashed 4 tablespoons chile powder 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin seed
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano 1 teaspoon salt

Procedure:
1 Saute onion in salad oil just until limp and yellow. Add tomato puree and garlic. Gradually stir in chile powder. Add cumin seed, oregano, and salt. Cover and simmer at least 30 minutes, stirring frequently. Strain through a medium-fine wire strainer.
